Summary

Upon wielding an ancient sword that has been passed down through his royal family for generations， Prince Vald is struck by a curse that turns him into a demon！ In search of guidance， Vald appeals to the powerful sorcerer Halvi for help， and the two set out on a journey to break the curse。 However， there is one thing the handsome sorcerer is keeping secret from the young prince—the raging demon that Vald turns into every night can only be calmed when Halvi satisfies his lust！ And so begins their epic journey in search of clues to break the young prince’s curse。

Exceptionaly drawn art and a quirky， fun swords & sorcery/Jekyl and Hyde narrative mashup makes Crimson Spell a winner。 I'm not usually a fan of overly explicit sex exploding in melodramatic page layouts every 20 pages， but the tone and art work so well together that all the sexy shots of Vald’s admittedly hot butt getting plugged simply become part of the overall experience。 Thoroughly entertaining。 ​​​​Yamane is an outstanding draftsperson。 As an artist， she has a solid grasp of anatomy （no pu Exceptionaly drawn art and a quirky， fun swords & sorcery/Jekyl and Hyde narrative mashup makes Crimson Spell a winner。 I'm not usually a fan of overly explicit sex exploding in melodramatic page layouts every 20 pages， but the tone and art work so well together that all the sexy shots of Vald’s admittedly hot butt getting plugged simply become part of the overall experience。 Thoroughly entertaining。 ​​​​Yamane is an outstanding draftsperson。 As an artist， she has a solid grasp of anatomy （no pun intended）， form， and light。 Her command of linear perspective leads to unerringly convincing scenes， but she wisely lets feeling and emotion trump slavish adherence to vanishing points。 If overlapping or atmospheric effects are better at expressing a mood， she uses them。 She also has a gift for drawing generic manga faces with strong， confident lines softened by subtle shadows - especially in the way that she handles value gradations in the eyes - that her characters feel solid and idiosyncraticaly unique。​​​​I read this on my Kindle， but volumes 2 & 3 are coming in paperback。 The art is too good to leave to some hacks idea of effective digital graphics。​​​​ 。。。more

the only reason that I'm giving it 1 star i because it somewhat did have a good storyline going for itself but the fact that the mage/sorcerer/whatever you want to call him begin to have sex with a non-verbal demon （in other words can't consent） thats possessing the at the time unconscious prince （ie， getting r@ped） practically since day one only to better his own magic （like tf？） it rubbed me the wrong way。 the fact that the prince doesn't know whats going on。。。。and the little human turning rab the only reason that I'm giving it 1 star i because it somewhat did have a good storyline going for itself but the fact that the mage/sorcerer/whatever you want to call him begin to have sex with a non-verbal demon （in other words can't consent） thats possessing the at the time unconscious prince （ie， getting r@ped） practically since day one only to better his own magic （like tf？） it rubbed me the wrong way。 the fact that the prince doesn't know whats going on。。。。and the little human turning rabbit is basically an accomplice since it doesn't say anything to the prince even though it sees the mage and knows that the prince is being sexually assaulted in his sleep。。。。 and the whole thing about asking him to have sex with it too？？？ （in human form ofc）but hey its all okay cus the mage is actually falling in love with the victim and the demon is being more submissive and pliant so its definitely ok！and lets not take into account that the prince might be in fact "straight" even kinda says so when again the rabbit asked to have sex with him （also for the betterment of its magic） （its a yaoi obviously by the end or half of it he ain't straight no more）the mage is a dick too。 like this boi is getting used left to right。。。I will say that the story had potential but i just don't feel comfortable going further。。。 。。。more

El arte de esta historia es precioso pero la historia en sí deja mucho que desear， no esta bien hilada， no tiene mucha descripción y los diálogos no aportan nada a la trama ni a desarrollar la relación de los protagonistas。 Otra cosa que no me gusta nada es el tema del sexo no consensual。 Entiendo que Val no es él mismo cuando esta en forma demoniaca pero igual es su cuerpo y nunca acepto que se usara para tener sexo。

This is the first manga series I've ever tried and what can I say？ I picked a good place to start！ Crimson Spell follows a brave prince （Vald） and a powerful mage （Havi） who are thrown together when Vald seeks out the mage in order to reverse the terrible curse inflicted on him through using his family's demonically powered sword。The curse transforms Vald into a half-human， beast-like monster whenever he loses control and also at night when he falls asleep。 Mages in his own kingdom fashion him m This is the first manga series I've ever tried and what can I say？ I picked a good place to start！ Crimson Spell follows a brave prince （Vald） and a powerful mage （Havi） who are thrown together when Vald seeks out the mage in order to reverse the terrible curse inflicted on him through using his family's demonically powered sword。The curse transforms Vald into a half-human， beast-like monster whenever he loses control and also at night when he falls asleep。 Mages in his own kingdom fashion him magical shackles to wear when he sleeps so that he remains human。 But on his first night alone with Havi， the mage removes the shackles to see what he's dealing with。 Protected by his magic， Havi decides to tame the beast， physically [Mature Content]。As other readers have noted， there is a red flag here in terms of consent。 Vald is unconscious as Havi seduces his beast-form and remains unaware of the night-time encounters during the day。 Even between Havi and beast-Vald， at least at the beginning， the consent is dubious。 So， why am I giving this manga four stars？ Because there is so much that I do love about it。I love the setting in this old world Europe style fantasy world with dragons and demons， spirits and mages。 The fantasy aspects of the central story are gripping and I can't wait to see how the story develops。 The art is gorgeous and the cast of characters are each distinct and have their own little quirks and intricacies。 The central characters， Vald and Havi， are both intriguing with suggestions of further depth and mystery， and I'm interested in the relationship between them and how it will develop。 。。。more

Crimson Spell was my introduction to Ayano Yamane。 And I am not a fan of her Finder series。 So when she abandoned Crimson Spell to work on Finder， I was really disappointed。 It's nice to know she's back to working on Crimson Spell again！ I'd held off reading beyond the first couple of volumes because I was afraid she had completely given it up， but thankfully that isn't the case！I love Ayano Yamane's art。 It is truly among the best。 And it's particularly beautiful in Crimson Spell because the fa Crimson Spell was my introduction to Ayano Yamane。 And I am not a fan of her Finder series。 So when she abandoned Crimson Spell to work on Finder， I was really disappointed。 It's nice to know she's back to working on Crimson Spell again！ I'd held off reading beyond the first couple of volumes because I was afraid she had completely given it up， but thankfully that isn't the case！I love Ayano Yamane's art。 It is truly among the best。 And it's particularly beautiful in Crimson Spell because the fantasy setting has elaborate costumes and men with long， flowing hair。 Fantasy yaoi manga like this is pretty rare， and this one is top-notch。 The plot is intricate， the settings are detailed， the characters are attractive and likable， and you really care about the story。 On top of that， it's full of hard yaoi and minimal censoring。There's a lot of action in volume 1。 A demon attacks a kingdom， and its prince boldly uses a family heirloom sword to repel it， then contracts the sword's curse。 He travels to the home of a powerful sorcerer to request help lifting his curse， which makes him turn into a demon when the sun goes down。 The sorcerer agrees to help the prince only if he helps him obtain a magical artifact first。 In the meantime， he quells the demon's rage each night by sharing his passion。 Throughout their travels they combat magical creatures， bandits， and other sorcerers to work toward their mutual goals， all the while growing closer to one another。Highly recommended for yaoi fans who love an intricate fantasy-themed plot and beautiful art to match。 。。。more
